Finding Better Windows For My Home

After we started focusing heavily on exterior renovations for our home, we realized that our windows needed to change. Instead of trying to scrub them clean and deal with their leaky nature, we went to a professional glass expert and talked with him about replacing the windows. We were able to choose from a large selection of different styles, colors, and shapes, and it was really fantastic to find such amazing replacements. This blog is all about finding better windows for your home and knowing how to choose between all of the options out there. You never know, you might be surprised with how much of a difference the right windows can make.

Windows Seen Better Days? 3 Reasons You Should Replace Them

Michele Kuhn

If your windows have seen better days, it might be time to think about having them replaced. New windows can add to the value of your home and improve the way it looks. But, that's not all new windows can do for your home. Here are three other reasons why you should have your old windows replaced.

Improved Energy Efficiency

If your old windows aren't doing a good enough job at insulating your home, you could be wasting energy and money. To find out if your windows are failing at their job, stand in front of them on a cold day. If you can feel wind blowing in from around the window frames, or there's cold air radiating through the glass, you should have your windows replaced. The problem is that as glass ages, it becomes thinner; when that happens, you'll notice that your home doesn't stay as warm – or as cool – as it should during the winter or summer months.

Easier to Open and Close

If you have to struggle just to get your windows to open and close, it's probably time to think about replacement windows. This is particularly true if you've already tried to solve the problem by washing the window frames or applying lubricating spray. It's important to note that aging can affect both wood and metal window frames.

Wood Frames

If you have wood frame windows, they can contract and expand with age. When that happens, you may notice that your windows no longer fit properly.

Metal Frames

If you have metal frames, they may rust over time, especially if you live in an area that experiences heavy rainfall.

If opening and closing your windows has become an impossible battle, you should talk to a contractor about replacing them.

Get Rid of the Condensation

If the seals around your old dual-pane windows have failed, you might have noticed a thick layer of condensation building up between the two layers. Unfortunately, once that happens, there's no way to get rid of it. If you've scrubbed and scrubbed, and you still can't see through your windows. It's time for new ones.  Not only are the broken seals leaving your windows looking cloudy, they're also failing to keep your home properly protected against the elements.

If your windows have seen better days, it's time to talk to your contractor about window replacements. New windows in your home will improve the appearance of your home and help make your home more energy efficient.
