Creative Ideas For Your Old Residential Windows

Michele Kuhn

If you are about to have your old residential windows replaced, you may want to consider all of the things that you can do with them instead of just throwing them out with the trash. To help you come up with a suitable idea, you will want to review the following suggestions.

Playhouse Windows

If you have children or grandchildren that you would like to build a custom playhouse for, you can use your old residential windows for it. It will give the playhouse a more realistic feel. Of course, you will want to make sure that you are using the smallest windows that you have, as you want there to be more wall space than window in order to keep the playhouse as secure as possible.

Coat And Purse Hanger

You can create a coat and purse hanger from one of the old windows that you are having removed from your home. Simply clean it up and give its frame a fresh coat of paint if you would like to brighten it up or give it a different color. Once the paint has completely dried, you will want to turn it horizontally and screw in a few hooks. Make sure that you are leaving a couple of inches in between each hook so there is space for thicker coats. You will also need to attach hanging hooks on the back of the top portion of the old window so it can hang on the wall.

Jewelry Hanger

Remove the glass from the old residential windows. If you do not have experience doing this, you might want to take it to a glass company or a handyman who can do it for you so you do not cut yourself. Measure and cut enough chicken wire so that it covers the entire back of the old window. Chicken wire can be purchased at many home improvement, hardware, and farm supply stores. Attach the wire with staples so it is nice and secure. Hang old Christmas ornament hooks in various places on the chicken wire. You can then hang your earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and watches from those hooks.

As you can see, there are a lot of great ideas for your old residential windows. All you have to do now is decide what types of things you want to turn those old windows into and make some for yourself. You can even make some custom pieces as gifts for friends and family.
