Finding Better Windows For My Home

After we started focusing heavily on exterior renovations for our home, we realized that our windows needed to change. Instead of trying to scrub them clean and deal with their leaky nature, we went to a professional glass expert and talked with him about replacing the windows. We were able to choose from a large selection of different styles, colors, and shapes, and it was really fantastic to find such amazing replacements. This blog is all about finding better windows for your home and knowing how to choose between all of the options out there. It's Time For Replacements: Steps To Take When Planning For New Windows

Michele Kuhn

If it's time for replacement windows on your home, be sure you take the time to get the job done right. After all, replacement windows are a big investment in your home. If your windows have outlasted their usefulness, your home won't be nearly as energy-efficient as it should be. Not only that but they'll also be harder to keep clean. Here are a few steps you should take when planning for new replacement windows.

Choose the Right Windows

When it comes to replacement windows, you want to make sure you choose the right ones. This is particularly important when it comes to the cleaning. Window cleaning is always a chore, but when you choose the right ones, you'll have an easier time at the task. One way to take some of the work out of cleaning your windows is to choose double-hung windows for your home. These windows contain two separate sashes that slide from top to bottom. Double-hung windows tilt in to allow easy access for cleaning, which means you won't need to remove windows or head outside to get them clean.

Add Solar Window Shades

If you're having replacement windows installed to make your home more energy efficient, you'll want to take things one step further. While you're arranging to have your replacement windows installed, don't forget to include solar window shades. Solar window shades go above and beyond traditional window screens by blocking out the sun's harmful UV rays. As a result, your home will stay cooler and your furnishings will be protected against sun damage.

Prepare for Installation Day

Now that you'll be having replacement windows installed in your home, you'll need to prepare for installation day. Before the construction crew arrives, you'll need to remove all the curtains and shades from your windows. While you're at it, be sure to move all your furniture away from the windows. That way, the crew will have plenty of space to move around. It's also a good idea to cover any furniture that you don't want to get dirty during the construction.

Update Your Security System

If you have a security system on your home, it will need to be deactivated while your replacement windows are being installed. Once the windows are in place, you'll need to contact your security company and have them come out to take care of the rewiring. During the installation, the existing wires will need to be removed, which means your new windows will no longer be protected by the existing security layout. Your security company will be able to rewire the windows and connect them to the system.
