Finding Better Windows For My Home

After we started focusing heavily on exterior renovations for our home, we realized that our windows needed to change. Instead of trying to scrub them clean and deal with their leaky nature, we went to a professional glass expert and talked with him about replacing the windows. We were able to choose from a large selection of different styles, colors, and shapes, and it was really fantastic to find such amazing replacements. This blog is all about finding better windows for your home and knowing how to choose between all of the options out there. You never know, you might be surprised with how much of a difference the right windows can make.

Three Strategies People Use To Choose A Siding Color

Michele Kuhn

Homeowners often get really excited about putting new siding on their homes. But then, they realize they need to pick a color, and that's where the analysis paralysis sets in. These days, there are thousands of colors to choose from, and settling on just one or two can be harder than you might think! A wise approach is to choose one of these three strategies, and then use it to pick a siding color.

#1: Picking a color that is in line with your home's architectural style.

If you have a home that is built in a specific architectural style, you may want to pick a color that's typical of that style. For example, if you have a Craftsman home, then typical color choices would be natural tones like deep brown, olive green, and earthy tan. If you have a Tuscan home, then warm grays, greens, and browns are typical. And for a low-country home, various shades of blue and white would be traditional. If you're not sure what colors are typical of your home's architectural style, search for photos of homes that look like yours, and see what colors they are.

#2: Picking a color that blends in with your neighborhood.

If you care less about architectural integrity, but you live in a neighborhood where conformity is important, then this may be the strategy you want to go with. Look at the colors that your neighbors have chosen for their siding. See which one of these colors you like best, and then go with that. Or, you may simply notice that everyone on the block has some shade of gray; then you can pick whatever shade of gray you personally prefer.

#3: Picking a color that stands out.

If you live in a more artsy, modern neighborhood where it is more important to stand out than to blend in, then you should look for a siding color that stands out. Drive down your street, and write down the colors you see. Then, look down the list of siding options until you find one that none of your neighbors have. That's your top choice! In this case, it's okay if your siding is a little bright or unique; that's the point.

Picking a siding color is a big decision, so it's helpful to make that decision in a thoughtful, strategic way. You can use any of the three strategies above!
