Finding Better Windows For My Home

After we started focusing heavily on exterior renovations for our home, we realized that our windows needed to change. Instead of trying to scrub them clean and deal with their leaky nature, we went to a professional glass expert and talked with him about replacing the windows. We were able to choose from a large selection of different styles, colors, and shapes, and it was really fantastic to find such amazing replacements. This blog is all about finding better windows for your home and knowing how to choose between all of the options out there. You never know, you might be surprised with how much of a difference the right windows can make.

Questions You May Have Before Your Replacement Window Installation Appointment

Michele Kuhn

If you have a replacement window installation appointment coming up, then you might be excited to have new windows put in your home. However, you may also be a little unfamiliar with the process, which could lead to some questions about replacement windows and having them installed. With any luck, you will find answers to your questions below.

Do they really have to replace all of your windows?

If some of your windows are still in good condition and are not leaking, then it should be possible to leave those ones and only replace the ones that really need them. But while this approach is possible, it is not usually recommended. Replacing all of your windows at once ensures your home maintains a cohesive, consistent look. It also helps keep all of your windows on the same schedule, so they don't fail and require replacement at different times in the future. Plus, since the installation company is already on-site, they can usually replace all the windows more affordably during one visit than when spread out over multiple visits. If you're on a really tight budget, then it's okay not to replace a few windows — but otherwise, replacing them all at once is the smarter move.

Where will the installers need to be?

To replace a window, the installers will need access to both the inside and outside surface of that window. They don't need a lot of room to work, though, so you should not have to move any major furniture unless it is truly blocking the window. Your installers will need to remove any drapes or blinds from the windows. Most will ask you to do this prior to their arrival to save time.

Outdoors, make sure you move any patio furniture, plants, and other items that would reduce access to the window surface.

Can the installers work during bad weather?

Unless there is a blizzard, a bad wind storm, or a terrible thunderstorm, the installers will typically arrive and do their job. They can block some rain with plastic while working on your windows, and cold is not a major issue. They will often work on the side of the home that's out of the wind first and then move to the windier side once the weather improves.

Having new windows installed is exciting. Hopefully now that you know the answers to these questions, you can look forward to the experience.
